Thane: NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad and his aide allegedly received death threats from an unidentified caller, prompting a police complaint in Thane. The incident took place on October 18, and a case has been registered at Vartak Nagar police station.

According to the complaint, Awhad was having lunch at his residence, Naad Bungalow, when he received two to three calls from the same mobile number at around 4:15 p.m. The caller allegedly spoke for nearly half an hour and claimed to be standing outside the bungalow.

He sent party worker Hemant Vani to check the premises. Vani reportedly saw two men on a motorcycle and attempted to call them inside, but they left.

After he informed him about the calls, Vani tried contacting the number. When he eventually reached the caller through a voice call, the person allegedly threatened to shoot him as well.

“First, I will shoot Jitya, and then I will shoot you too,” the caller allegedly told Vani, claiming to have visited the area outside his house.

Vani reportedly received another call from the same number while on his way to lodge a complaint. The caller allegedly threatened to kill both men.

Vani subsequently approached Vartak Nagar police. He said preliminary efforts to trace the number indicated that the caller was from Pune.

The motive behind the threats remains unclear. Awhad has reportedly received death threats in the past. Police had not detained anyone in connection with the case at the time of reporting. The investigation will seek to establish the caller’s identity and determine the reason for the threats.
