Following recent incidents of fires at chemical companies in the MIDC area near Dombivli, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Indurani Jakhad has announced the establishment of an action plan committee by the government to address concerns regarding the relocation of hazardous chemical companies. Dr. Indu Rani Jakhad made these statements during a press conference held at the Commissioner's Hall in Kalyan headquarters.
The decision to form the Action Plan Committee came after significant damage and safety risks were highlighted by fires at Amudan Chemical Company on May 23 and Indo Amines and Malde Company on June 12. According to Dr. Indurani Jakhad, the government responded promptly to these incidents, convening a meeting on May 27 under the leadership of Principal Secretary (Industries).
“In accordance with the discussions held during the meeting, the government has constituted an 'Action Plan Committee' as per the Government Decision dated May 28, 2024. This committee is tasked with preparing a comprehensive action plan for the relocation of hazardous and high-risk chemical companies from the Dombivli Industrial Area”, stated Municipal Commissioner Dr. Indurani Jakhad.
The committee comprises senior government officials who will oversee a survey of companies operating in the Dombivli Industrial Area. Information is being gathered through a government-provided questionnaire to facilitate the relocation process once official directives are issued.
Despite ongoing governmental measures, another fire broke out this morning at Malde Company in the Dombivli industrial area, reportedly due to a short circuit. The fire subsequently spread to neighbouring Indo Amines. Thankfully, there were no casualties reported, and authorities including the municipality and MIDC swiftly responded to contain and extinguish the blaze.
“Upon receiving reports of respiratory issues among citizens near the incident site, precautions were taken, and affected individuals were advised to relocate to safer areas until the fire was fully under control”, added Dr. Indurani.
