Kalyan: Police has arrested one person in connection with the rape of a minor in Ambivli near Kalyan. The accused, identified as Ganesh Mhatre, has been arrested by the Khadakpada Police following a complaint by the victim’s family.

According to reports, the 11-year-old girl had left home to visit a friend’s house. When she failed to return, her family launched a frantic search. The victim was found near their residence the following day. Upon questioning, the traumatized girl revealed the sexual assault. The incident happened on May 5.

According to police, the victim had stopped to watch a movie shooting underway in Ambivli. Mhatre, who runs a grocery store nearby, allegedly dragged the victim inside her shop and forcibly assaulted her.

Police has registered a case under POCSO Act and Mhatre has been arrested. Senior Inspector Amarnath Waghmode of Khadakpada Police station confirmed the incident and said, “The investigation is underway.”
