Hundreds Participate In A Charity Marathon

Hundreds of participants from various walks of life in different age groups from across Maharashtra participated with zeal and enthusiasm in the inaugural edition of the ‘Inorbit Charity Marathon” held early this week in the city. The road race organized by Ghansoli based Aarine Events and Promotion in association with Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) promoted various social issues like ‘Swachh Bharat’, ‘Welfare of the Disabled’ and ‘Child Education’ .

Amidst fun and frolic the participants warmed up with Zumba Dance to the beats of various peppy Bollywood numbers before embarking on the competitive circular route held over a distance of 2km, 5km and 10km between Vashi and Sanpada. (Photos by Author).

Dhananjay Gautam from Mumbai was the outright winner in the 2 Km event which witnessed maximum participation.  Sailesh Pawar from Panvel and Pratik Ambekar from Nerul came in second and third in this category. This race category also witnessed tiny tots Jiya Surve and Juily Shirke (both cousins) complete the route in the company of their parents. Twin siblings from Airoli, Dhairya and Dhruvika Patil along with their elder sister Narmata too were among the finishers.

In the 5 Km race which was held to garner support for the ‘Welfare of the Disabled’   saw Trimbak More from Somaiya Sports Academy, Mumbai time his race to perfection amidst strong challenge from his rivals in the three lap race. He was followed closely by Rajkumar Shah from Mumbai and Aditya Nirgun from Sindhudurg, Raigad District who came in second and third respectively.

The 10 Km road race held to promote the cause of ‘Child Education’ and was flagged off along with the 5km event was won by Rajesh Shelke  from Satara District.  Bhupinder Singh from Uran and Thane’s Rakesh Kanga came in second and third respectively. Showing great resolve and commitment Mangal Shelar, a House wife residing in Bhiwandi ran bare footed topped the Women’s category and finished fourth overall in the 10 Km race.

“Around 25 enthusiastic members form our Sanpada based Walkie Talkie group, all of whom are 40 plus took part in the ‘Inorbit Charity Marathon’ participated in this one of a kind event which has been held to promote various social causes. The same resonates with our groups mission which too has been promoting various social issues for the past three years at various forums. This includes NMMC Swachhta Abhiyan. Our members on the occasion highlighted the importance of Health is Wealth among other participants too with a tag line ‘Be Fit Stay Fit & Be Happy while participating in the 2 Km race.’” shared Raju Raut, a MNC Professional and   Devdas Bote, Vice Principal of KBP College, Vashi, both founder members of Walkie Talkie group

“It always feel great to support any social cause and when it is coupled with fitness the value increases many folds. We were more than happy to participate along with our daughters in this Charity Marathon which incidentally is only our second venture in road race.” shared Priya K Kumar from Vashi and Remya Rajesh from Koparkhairane who along with their daughters Akshaya and Supriya respectively completed the 5 Km route without any hiccups.

“To win any road race is a matter of pride for any participant. The hard work and daily training of two hours over a period of time as part of preparation for the Army and Police recruitment has paid dividends. The win has boosted my morale and I hope to extend the same in upcoming Half Marathons (21 Km events) soon, ” shared Rajesh Shelke from Satara District, Winner of 10 Km event.

Speaking on the occasion Nitesh Misaal, Proprietor, Aarine Events and Promotion which organized the event said ”The inaugural edition of the ‘Inorbit Charity Marathon’ was held in association with the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and promoted various social causes of the likes of Swachh Bharat (2 Km race), Welfare of the Disabled (5 Km ) and Child Education (10 Km).  We are more than happy to receive the support from hundreds of participants across Maharashtra. The top three finishers in each category were given Trophies and Merit Certificates. The rest who completed the race were given Finishers Medal as a token of appreciation for their efforts. The profit from this event will be shared for between various NGOs (Children’s Aadhar Foundation, Divyang Welfare Association and Raanpakhara Samajik Sanstha) who were associated with this event  ”.

Misaal further said “The event of this scale would not have been possible without the support of Navi Mumbai Police & Traffic Police, our various associates Inorbit – Mall Partner, Choticab – Travel Partner, Club Mahindra – Holiday Partner, SITC – IT Partner, Fortis Hospital – Health Partner, Newsband and Aaple Nave Shahar – Media Partners etc and well supported by Prakash Patil Founder of Airoli based Raanpakhara Samajik Sanstha along with his team mate Sashikant Kamble, and numerous volunteers who have worked tirelessly for over a month in order to make this event a grand success. Seeing the response to our Charity Marathon we aim to organize the second edition in a bigger way and support more NGO’s in the coming few months”.
