The Public Works Department cancelled the contract of D.R services due to irregularities in the payment to the government by them. Now the charge of the Kharghar toll booth has been given to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). The day MSRDC took the charge the toll tax has been hiked from Rs.10 to Rs.130 for the heavy vehicles.
Earlier in the presence of many police force the PWD department terminated the services of D.R. Services because it was unable to pay the collection of Rs. 26 Lakhs daily to the government. The company has not paid the toll collection charges from last one year and the reason why strict action was initiated on 2nd April against them.
The increased toll tax collection has already started getting collected by the MSRDC from 1st April, 2019 but many drivers don’t know about the change and the reason there were few cases of arguments with the toll plaza staff before pay the toll tax. But slowly now everyone are becoming aware of the changes.
Initially, before D.R.Services the government appointed Sion-Panvel Tollways Pvt LTD (SPTPL) to collect the toll tax at Kharghar toll plaza. But soon the company withdrawn the services because the government did not provided them with the money they were promised for period of two years. And later state government appointed Eagle Company to collect the toll tax and after Eagle the other company which was awarded the contract was D.R.Services.
Kishore Patil, PWD Executive Engineer said, “We have cancelled the contract of D.R.Services due to the irregularities in payment to the government. The government norms says that the charges of toll are revised every three years but that was not the case at Kharghar toll plaza due to contractor issues. After the state government notification the new charges will remain for one year. Tempo, mini buses, truck, trailor will be paying the increased toll charges from 1st April, 2019 till 31st March, 2020. However, the light vehicles have been given toll exemption at Kharghar toll plaza booth.”
