Shastri Nagar – OffShots FC Crowned MFA First Division Champions

Needing a must need win Shastri Nagar Offshoots FC overcame a second half goal deficit in their 3-1 rout of underdogs South Mumbai United FC 3-1 in the concluding Super-3 League match to emerge champions of the First Division Mumbai Football Association League 2023-2024 tourney that was played at the Neville D’Souza ground.

Opportunistic striker Mayur Jadhav struck a brace of goals and Vijay Jadhav got one to seal Shastri Nagar’s win, while Ranvir Malik scored South Mumbai’s lone goal, who infact had upset one of the top-seeded team – Bombay Gymkhana in the first round of the playoffs earlier in the tourney.

The champions Shastri Nagar started on a shaky note and trailed initially, but came good in the final 15 minutes by scoring three goals to secure a deserving victory.

After the first half failed to produce a single goal, South Mumbai opened the scoring in the fourth minute of the second half through Ranvir Malik to take the lead.

However, Shastri Nagar fought back and knocked the fight out of their opponents. Mayur scored his first goal in the 69th minute to put his team on level term before Vijay hit the target in the 79th minute to take the lead. Shastri Nagar complete the win when Mayur scored his second and the team’s third goal in the fourth minute of additional period.

Earlier the Super 3 phase, that eventual winners Shastri Nagar – OffShots FC, Second Division champions of 2022-23 Don Bosco FC and South Mumbai United FC, was nothing short of a classic encounters in the face of high stakes. In the opening fixture, Shastri Nagar and on Bosco played out a a goalless draw. The Don Bosco and South Mumbai United too ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw,  with South Mumbai United making a spirited comeback after conceding two early goals, only for Don Bosco to equalize in the dying minutes.
