Belapur: NMMC is all set to distribute free textbooks to all students studying in 152 schools in Navi Mumbai. All preparations in this regard have been made by the education department.
A total of 61,879 students studying in classes 1 to 8 across 152 schools — which include both NMMC-run and private aided schools — will be provided with free textbooks from the first day of school on June 16.
The Free Textbook Scheme has been initiated under the 'Samagra Shiksha' (Comprehensive Education) programme to ensure that no child studying from 1st to 8th standard is deprived of textbooks and to ensure that students do not face any difficulty in education due to the lack of study materials. The programme also aims to maintain 100 per cent attendance of all enrolled students in schools and to reduce the dropout rate to zero.
The transportation of textbooks for the academic year 2025-26 has been carried out by transporters appointed by the Maharashtra Primary Education Council, Mumbai. Additionally, the distribution of textbooks from the municipal level to individual schools was carried out by NMMC between June 4 and 10.
These textbooks will be distributed to the students on the first day of school, i.e., June 16, 2025, by the respective school principals in the presence of departmental officials, officers, and parents, informed Sanghratna Khillare, deputy commissioner, education department.
