Mumbai City FC will look to extend their unbeaten run as they take on Sporting Club Delhi in an exciting clash of the Indian Super League (ISL) at the floodlit Mumbai Football Arena on Sunday, March 8.

Currently sitting fifth in the league standings with seven points from three matches, Mumbai City FC are eager to capitalise on their home advantage. The reigning champions, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, lead the table, but the Islanders are determined to climb higher after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against NorthEast United FC in their last outing, following their captain Lallianzuala Chhangte’s late equaliser, which ensured the Islanders remained unbeaten.

Head coach Petr Krátký emphasised the importance of consistency and momentum, said, “The most important objective is to secure three points. We will respect our pattern of play and expose the opposition. SC Delhi are a team with a lot of energy, so we must stay focused and disciplined.”

Mumbai City defender Sahil Panwar echoed this sentiment, highlighting the collective effort required for success: “It is about us as a group, how we perform collectively. We are focused on maintaining clean sheets.”

On the other hand, Sporting Club Delhi arrive in Mumbai desperate for their first win of the season. Currently positioned in the penultimate place at the bottom of the 14-team league, SC Delhi are still searching for their first points after three matches. They showcased solid defensive capabilities but fell short in a narrow 0-1 defeat to FC Goa in their previous match.

Historically, SC Delhi hold a slight edge over Mumbai City, with eight wins in 22 total encounters, while Mumbai have seven victories and seven draws. Despite trailing in wins, the Islanders lead in goals scored, 27 to 24. Their last meeting in February 2025 ended in a gritty stalemate, and SC Delhi will aim to build on their improved defensive organisation against a clinical Mumbai side.

SC Delhi head coach Tomasz Tchórz views the pressure of facing a former champion as a vital opportunity for growth. “It’s a huge game away in Mumbai. We must be at our very best to secure a positive result,” he said. Defender Lamgoulen added, “As captain, the responsibility is much bigger. I want to help the team and give my best every day.”

With three crucial points on the line, Mumbai City will seek to control the tempo at home, while SC Delhi aim to stay compact and exploit counter-attacking opportunities in a match that promises to be an engaging contest for fans and players alike.

Further, the hosts will also mark the fixture with a special Women’s Day initiative, donating the net revenue generated from matchday ticket sales to an NGO supporting women’s causes.

“Football brings people together and allows us to support good causes, and I hope this philanthropic initiative by the club will witness many people come to support both the team and the cause,” said Petr Krátký.
