Mira Road: A 24-year-old woman was murdered by her boyfriend in Mira Road’s MHADA complex on June 13. The victim, identified as Kareena Ali alias Sana Bano, an orchestra singer, was found with her throat slit. Kareena’s partner Shamshuddin Hanif (24), a professional chef, has been arrested in connection with the crime.

Police said the two had been in a relationship for a year after meeting on Instagram. However, tensions over suspected infidelity had strained their bond in recent weeks. On Friday, Shamshuddin reportedly attacked Karishma with a chef’s knife, fatally slashing her neck in a fit of rage.

“This was a targeted and deliberate attack,” said DCP Zone 1 Prakash Gaikwad, adding that the accused was arrested within hours through technical surveillance and local intelligence.

Shamshuddin was presented in court and remanded to police custody. Investigators are now examining digital records and call history to piece together the sequence of events.

“We are probing all possible angles, including the accused’s psychological condition,” DCP Gaikwad said. “He has confessed to the crime.”
